Sucess with beta blockers?

I am 29 and was just put on 25mg toprol for my fast heart rate and slightly high BP. My ekg%26#039;s were fine except for fast heart rate and I had an echo cardiogram and all was fine. Anyone been on beta blockers long term?

How has it helped you?

Sucess with beta blockers?

I am 48 and I was taking Atenenol 50 mg and this past summer my doctor increased it to 100mg. I have had 1 heart attack and stress causes high BP. I am doing fine now. I have been taking this med since I was 38 years old. It keeps my heart rate good. Take care of any stress and keep getting the BP checked. Consult with your doctor about any questions for a professional answer. I was 45 when I had my attack. It definitely has helped me.

Sucess with beta blockers?

my mom is on them. she has this thing where all of a sudden her heart rate with skyrocket. like if she bends over funny (or does bills)

one morning she was standing in the kitchen paying her bills and it started, so she laid down like she ususally does and it wouldnt go away, usually it does in like 15 minutes. it kept going for 2 hours. she came and got me and called 911 and when they got to the house her heart rate was 181, and that was after 2 hours of waiting!!! every test they did came out normal. she%26#039;s on the beta blockers and will be for life. she hasnt had an episode since. and that one was about 2 years ago.

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

I once had a dream that I fell off a cliff and when I woke up, I had fallen off my bed in %26quot;midair%26quot; and my heart rate was very high. Was this the same as my heart rate would%26#039;ve been if I had really been falling?

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

No it does not mean that, when you dream there are ways to signal you in the real life! If you were killed in your dream or any kind of death occured in a dream it simply means that there will be an ending or closing to something in your life and it isn%26#039;t a bad sign it is just the ending of something old and the beginning of something new! and as for your heart rate your heart beats faster in your sleep and your pulse raises also! believe me it happens to me!!!! But your dreams have interpretations on life like if it rains in your dream that means there is a cleansing in your life!

It is actually quite interesting when you follow your dreams, cause you find out that the signs you have in your dreams happen in life but in a funny way, not that your gonna die soon, but the symbols in your dream will interperet your way of life and your future. But it is a know fact that if someone commits suicide in a dream is very serious cause in real life they are actually thinking about taking their own life! You should check out some sites on Dream Interpretations cause it will change the way you think of life and they way you think of your dreams!

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

Everybody will die someday, so yes, eventually.

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

everyone will die yes, this is true.. but i dont believe that dreams. I think this is bullshit or a big lie of someone..

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

sometimes,if you have a virus or a diaseese or sumthing that causes you to die,and its in affect and your sleeping, your mind will make the dream a life and deathe situation, survive till you wake up and you live! but your not always in danger in a dream but somtimes you might be so always try to not die in a dream!

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

No, this is just an urban legend. People have died in dreams and still lived. I once had a funny dream that a boulder fell onto me, and when I woke up my brother had fallen off the top bunk onto my bed ^^.

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

dreams are a minds way of %26quot;dumping%26quot; if you will and I wouldn%26#039;t take them seriously

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

everyone dies someday so yes...but the falling off a cliff dream gave u a clue that u were falling of ur bed so no worries

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

maybe u being thinking too much in the morning, try not to think about negative= nightmares, think positive =sweet dreams...

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

it doesnt necessarily mean that ur going to be killed.. killing dont mean that ur going to dye it could be someone else... someone close to u maybe a friend... im a superstious person whn i dream death, someone is getting married. and whn i dream marrage someone dies... if i dream am doing number 2 in the bowl i get money from somewhere! or if i dream a snake it means i have an enemy!! i hope this helps!!

**LIL MISS VIXION**

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

in indian culture , if u see ur self as dead u get a long life . but every one has a last stand to a dead man so y u r so worry about death. if u so , make all ppl happy so they will ask everybody that some pretty girl always try to makes us happy

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

no

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

No. Your dreams are just streams of subconsciousness, or something like that, but they don%26#039;t control your death, immediate or otherwise. I have had dreams where I died, but I%26#039;m still here.

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

no, it the repulsive, you%26#039;ll live longer, but this dream has a different meaning!

Is it true that if you have a dream that you were killed, you will die in real life?

Only if you go into cardiac arrest from the shock of the dream itself.

TV Game show back in 1990's- maybe 2000's?

Does anyone remember the name of the game show on TV that had contestants trying to keep they%26#039;re heart rate at a constant pace? The game show would try to do everything from popping balloons and other things to try to get the contestants heart rate to race, and if the contestant could do it they would win a certain prize.

There was a version of the game show on ABC, plus a similar version on Fox. I forgot the names of these shows, and I was wondering if anyone remembered the names of these game shows.

Thanks!

TV Game show back in 1990%26#039;s- maybe 2000%26#039;s?

The Chair was a game show television program that premiered on ABC in 2002. (hosted by John McEnroe)

The Chamber is a short-lived game show television program that aired on FOX. It was an hour long show that debuted on January 13, 2002. The show featured contestants answering questions while strapped into a torture chamber.

What should the heartrate be at 8 weeks and 2 days?

We had our first ultrasound this morning and I am 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant. The baby was 20mm long with a heart rate of 175bpm and I was told by the U/S technician that everything looks good and that my due date is 30th August 2008.

I have just done a little research on the internet and it says that the heart rate is usually within 120 to 160bpm. Is 175bpm too high? Also, is 20mm normal for 8 weeks and 2 days?

Thanks

What should the heartrate be at 8 weeks and 2 days?

i%26#039;m 16 weeks prego with twins and at my appointment at around that time, one%26#039;s heart rate was 172 and the other%26#039;s was 175. i thought it was high too, but the tech, the nurse and the doctor said everything was fine! best of luck to you! congrats on your pregnancy!

What should the heartrate be at 8 weeks and 2 days?

170 was my babys heart rate at my ultrasound, the doctor said that was normal and it would come down.

What should the heartrate be at 8 weeks and 2 days?

if there was anything to be concerned about im sure the doctor would have told you, at 10 weeks my babys heartrate was close to 170bpm... if they felt it was anything to be concerned about they would have told you

What should the heartrate be at 8 weeks and 2 days?

nope just fine!! mine was 178. and its always been above 160 except one time it was 152!!

What should the heartrate be at 8 weeks and 2 days?

Its normal. you may have been a little hyped~!

What should the heartrate be at 8 weeks and 2 days?

My first ultrasound was at 9 weeks and 2 days. The baby%26#039;s heartbeat was 170 and the size was 2.5cm long. You%26#039;rs sounds normal to me. Congrats!

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

I had lost 40lbs; quit smoking in January and have gained back 30lbs. I had taken a break from eating right when the quitting was the most difficult but never stopped working out. I%26#039;ve gone back to the eating habits I had when I was losing to no avail and have even gained some since eating better.

My current routine:

30-45 min cardio--elliptical, recumbent bike or treadmill My heart rate seems to be in the 175-185 range (I%26#039;m 33).

At least 30 min weight training mostly on the machines at the gym, some hand weights.

Eat under 1600 calories per day--20% protein, 30% fat; 50% carbs. Should I decrease the calories more or make any other adjustments? I got the calories %26amp; percentages from Self Diet Club.

I don%26#039;t want to smoke again, one reason I quit was because of my heart rate when I did cardio. This doesn%26#039;t seem to have improved much either and it%26#039;s been 5 months!!

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

First, change your workout routine, add something else or do something different like swimming on alternate days. Your body adjusts itself really fast to exercise, but you shouldn%26#039;t do it longer, but add variety to it.

As for your diet, it looks healthy enough, but you can still trick your metabolism by eating 5 small meals instead of 3 large ones. Take what you normally eat in a day, and divide it in 5 smaller meals. See what happens.

We all hit plateaus from time to time, it%26#039;s just a matter of varying things, to make our metabolism click into weight loss again.

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

CONGRATULATION

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

you gotta mix it up a little to start losing again.

Your body will get use to the same routine and stop reacting well to it

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

I have the same problems. Sometimes our bodies get %26quot;stuck%26quot; if you will, when we lose weight. I lost 12 pounds on Weight Watchers and have been in stuck mode for a year. Try the Wendie Plan. This plan is specifically targeted for gettng you out of the stuck mode. It%26#039;s affiliated with Weight Watchers.

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

Maybe you should try a cleansing program along with your excersize...I lost 17 pounds in 11 days on this program, and there are many more people losing even more! What the cleanse does is wash out of all of your impurities and toxins, which then helps you burn fat instead of everything else... Check out www.ILOST17POUNDS.com

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

REDUCE THE INTAKE OF CARBOHYDRATES

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

First of all smoking was keeping your weight down as nicotine is an appetite suppressant. After quitting most people do gain weight, to where they would have been had they not smoked. The diet and exercise will bring your weight down. It takes time as you will hit plateau%26#039;s where the body tries to maintain a new weight level. keep doing as you have been doing and progress will be made.

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

as much as you workout you need to work out every day, as you might not know running is the least effective cardio there is, you might try jump rope, or swimming, and it is better to split up your work out like lets say you are going to swim an hour, than you will swim 30 min now than take a 15min break than take the other half, and also the least amount of fat you have the harder it will be to burn your fat away.

No longer losing weight...what am I doing wrong?

Since you have a balanced diet and a solid routine go all Atkins for 3 or 4 weeks, salad, meat, and diet coke. Then go back to your original diet but you will drop that weight for sure.

Is this a good science fair project idea?

I%26#039;m thinking of doing

Does music affect your heart rate?

and have christian rock, heavy metal, oldies, soft rock, rap, and country.

Or should I do

Does your favorite music have an affect on your heart rate?

Is this a good science fair project idea?

I think that is a great idea..but make sure you have the proper information and resouces to test this idea...it would be cool if you can do some experimentation yourself and maybe even do a demonstration at the fair...but think the idea is a wonderful one because people do respond to music well...like in the hospital it is used for therapy or it makes people feel happy, relaxed, and I know some poeple get all hype and angry with rock and rap..so good luck!

Is this a good science fair project idea?

I think it%26#039;s a great Idea and by the way it depend on what you do while your listening to your music as to if it affects your heart rate.

Fluctuating blood pressure question?

Is it normal to have your blood pressure--be high when you wake up in the morning like 165/108 --heart rate was 100

Then in the afternoon its--106/63---heart rate 103

Is this normal?

Fluctuating blood pressure question?

This is most definitely NOT NORMAL. Blood pressure and pulse fluctuate during the day by as much as 30 to 50 points for both blood pressure and pulse BUT within 1/2 of awakening you should record your LOWEST values of the day with goals of about 110/060 for blood pressure and 70 or lower for pulse. Please record your readings and take them to the physician.

Fluctuating blood pressure question?

heart rate is little bit high

pl don%26#039;t think too much of health. keep cool. consult a doctor.

Fluctuating blood pressure question?

no this is not normal!! the normal blood oressure should be [120/80]

i would consult a doctor like [yesterday]!!

Fluctuating blood pressure question?

As a rough guide blood pressure should be 100 plus half a person%26#039;s age. People normally have a higher reading than this though, which is quite normal. Your heart rate seems to be a little high at 100 and 103. I personally think you are not getting the correct readings for some reason. The best thing to do is make an appointment to see the nurse at your Doctor%26#039;s surgery, and get your bp checked by an expert.

Fluctuating blood pressure question?

Did anything happen in between? Having a large bowel movement can lower the BP. Then, you may have had a stressful dream.

Fluctuating blood pressure question?

Well, I cannot help you too much. When I%26#039;ve been at the doctor%26#039;s or at the hospital, They automaticly put me on an EKG when my pulse was over 100. It%26#039;s apparently some kind of threshold.

From my experience, my doctors didn%26#039;t pay much attention to my home bloodpressure readings. You can take them but it%26#039;s best if they pick up the wiered numbers themselves. Or if you can get a nurse to take them and tell them it was a nurse......

You need to get checked out.

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

I had a scary delivery w/ my last daughter. About 12 days before they induced me, I went to the hospital thinking I was leaking fluid. The doctor just had me lay on a pad for an hour, %26amp;sent me home. I went to 2 more weekly appts before he decided he needed to induce me.The initial drugs they gave me didn%26#039;t work, so they decided to break my water. In this process they found out I had no water to break. My husband and I tend to think that it was a slow leak...but the doctor never checked me. I was still not in labor, but my baby%26#039;s heart rate dropped all the way down to 40. They had me maneuver and gave me an oxygen mask...they inserted a hydrating device up into my uterus. Finally after 10 hours of nothing, they gave me more powerful drugs that worked. She had the chord around her neck, she pooped in utero, she had a slow heart rate %26amp; she was blue, w/ 2 marks on her head from the hydrating probe. Her apgar score was 3. She had an angel watching over her.she is now about to be 8 months.

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

I had almost the same experience - I went to the hospital, having contractions 5 minutes apart but since I wasn%26#039;t dilating, they kept me on monitors for one day and sent me home, although I was in such a pain. As soon as I got home, my water broke, so we went back to the hospital. I still had contractions 4-5 minutes apart, but wasn%26#039;t dilating, so they waited for another day to give me some pitocin. I got an infection because I took so long, I had very high fever and my blood pressure dropped to 60/30. My son was born with apgar score 0, it took them 5 minutes to resuscitate him. He pooped in the utero and got the infection from placenta. It was really hard and they told us he might have developmental delay because of the lack of oxygen, but so far it seems that he will be fine. He is three month old now. Good luck with your baby!!!

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

that is sooo scary. I%26#039;m gald everything turned out well. with my last one i had her normally. But when she came out she wasn%26#039;t crying and then i looked at my husband and they had him holding an oxygen mask over her. But she is now 10 months old now and all is well. And it was so scary.

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

my baby is 6 months and so far theres been nothing to worry about BUT

just not being near my daughter while i work is just so scary b/c you dont know how theyre treated when your not around and you dont know if they fell or not and those simple things so yeah thats about it but i know that in the future i will be terrified when my daughter goes out whenb shes older

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

Wow...that must have terrifying. Thank God for the happy outcome. My second son had to be put back in the hospital when he 3 days old. They thought he had meningitis. They did a spinal tap. He had wires and tubes coming out of every part of his body. He was in ICU for 10 days. They never figured out what was wrong. He just got better with antibiotics. He is now a 21 year old college student. I thank God everyday for all my children.

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

I think the scariest moment with my 15 month old so far is when she had an EKG done. It was so sad to see her hooked up to all those wires. (Her doctor thought she might have a heart problem.) She%26#039;s fine as well, thank God~

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

Wow! That is a terrifying story!!! My water broke like that, too, with just leaking here and there. I%26#039;m so glad I kept insisting that I be seen at the doctor%26#039;s office. They did an ultrsound, and yep! All the amniotic fluid had leaked out!

So glad to hear your precious daughter is ok! She did indeed have an angel watching over her!

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

my scariest moment was when my son stuck a bobby pin in the electrical socket!!! my silly a%$ sister left one on the coffee table up under some papers and he found it. Thank God the only thing he suffered was the burn from the bobby pin being stuck to his leg!

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

When my son was about 1 month old, I always had this thing about clipping babies%26#039; nails, I was so scared. Everyone kept telling me it wouldn%26#039;t happen (yeah...) So you know where this is going. I was clipping his nails and I took a chunk of skin off. Boy did it look painful! It bled a lot, too. I freaked out, but my son only cried for like a minute (I was torn up for DAYS about it). When I took him to the emergency room, no one took me seriously, they were just like %26quot;oh, well you%26#039;re a new mom%26quot;. But he was really bleeding, and it wouldn%26#039;t stop! So that and the hospital staff being a bunch of jerks, saying %26quot;oh well you should have taken him to the children%26#039;s hospital, where they specialize in this kind of thing.%26quot; I was so mad, it was the closest hospital in my area. After waiting for 4 hours, I got so angry, I just packed up and left.

Anyway, LOL sorry about that, I%26#039;m sure there are a ton of things that you (and I for that matter) will encounter as a new parent that will scare the crap out of you! I think it all just comes with being a mom though. As for what happened to you, I think the hospital should have just gone ahead and given you a C-section. I had one (my son was too big), but he was never in any kind of danger like that. With something like that, I would have to insist on it. But then again I%26#039;m not the hospital staff. I dunno.

Best of luck to you!

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

That was quite the scare for you. I%26#039;m really happy that things turned out well! :)

I don%26#039;t know if I can count my moments... LOL.

During labor with son... his heartrate dropped to the low 50%26#039;s, and it turned out that he was stuck. If it weren%26#039;t for the emergency c/section, we both could have died.

During labor with daughter... her heartrate dropped to the 30%26#039;s, she had to be taken out immediately, though I did have a planned VBAC with her.

Daughter was born with cleft lip/palate... she%26#039;s had 7 surgeries, and isn%26#039;t even 5 years old yet. Every surgery we%26#039;ve been through has been scary for me.

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

With my son there%26#039;s been several (he%26#039;s now 3.5). At 4 days old he had to go back to the hospital for jaunice. At the time I really didn%26#039;t understand what it was, all I remember was crying hysterically.

Then when he was almost 9 months old and still not sitting up. I thought there was something really wrong with him. So did the doctor. It turns out his ears were full of fluid and needed tubes. After that he was so delayed up until he hit about 2.5 years.

Then (okay I%26#039;ll admit this) last summer I accidentally locked him in the car. Very dangerous considering we live in AZ. To make a long story short, the Glendale fire department was very nice and got him out in like 2 minutes.

With my current pregnancy, I almost miscarried at 14 weeks. It was so scary!

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

wow that%26#039;s frightening!

my scariest moment was with my son when he was only 2. We have a pool. He thought he had his little floatie wings on his arms but nope... in to the deep end he jumped! My husband jumped in after him, shoes on and everything, thankfully my son was ok but that definitley shook me up. Near water you CANT take your eyes off of children, even if they can swim. Thankfully within 5 seconds of my son jumping in, my husband got him out!

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

Wow, it truly is a miracle that you daughter came out fine in the end!!! I%26#039;m very happy for you.

My scary thing is when I went into labor with my daughter %26amp; my husband %26amp; I first got to the hospital, the nurses went through the whole routine of getting me hooked up to the monitors, IV, etc. Well when they went to hook up the fetal heart rate monitor they could not find the babies heartbeat.

The room was absolutely dead silent for like 5 minutes [which as many of you know seems like an eternity] while she kept moving the monitor around trying to get the babies heartbeat. My husband and I couldn%26#039;t even look at each other.

Finally though she did find it. Turns out her stupid monitor just wasn%26#039;t working right.

I could have died though waiting to hear her!

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

wow... but I%26#039;m so glad everything turned out well. My scariest moments were two. One, when my baby fell off our bed :( She was 7 months. Thank the Lord she didn%26#039;t get hurt bad but it was SCARY. And second, when my baby at 9 months started choking.... she coughed out the piece of chcken. But also SCARY. We have to be so careful with tiny ones!!

What is the scariest moment you have had as a parent?

I agree with you....I started leaking amniotic fluid 5 weeks early. When I called my OB that morning, she thought it was urine and told me to shake the baby off my bladder. I called her back 8 hours later and told her it was no better. When I got to the hosp , they said I was leaking fluid and put me on IV antibiotics because I had a fever. My son%26#039;s fetal monitors were concerning, so they induced me quick! My son had his umbilical cord around his neck 3 times! The scariest moment was waiting to hear him cry...it took a long time, they had to do CPR on him.....it was the longest, scariest, most agonizing time of my life. Now he%26#039;s 5 months and happy , smiling, giggling...and yes crying!

Is working out in the cold a bad thing if I wanna improve my cardio??

Im not overweight or anything, but my cardio needs improvement and my heart rate raises easily, so I decided to start jump roping. I work out in my garage cause its were I can be alone and be focused on my workout, but since its November my garage is pretty chilly. I get my heart rate up and my muscles working, but Im not sweating and its hard for me to catch my breath afterwards.

Is working out in the cold a bad thing if I wanna improve my cardio??

I work out in the cold a lot! Dress warm and it keeps the heat in and that helps. Jump rope is great! It really gets your heart rate up, I always struggle trying to get my breath after jumproping

Is working out in the cold a bad thing if I wanna improve my cardio??

Its fine for you. Just make sure you warm up some first so you don%26#039;t start out hard and then end up injuring yourself. It doesnt matter that you are not sweating much, because as long as your getting your heartrate up you are improving your cardio. You might just be losing your breath afterwards because you are training and not yet in shape to handle your workouts, but I would suggest getting into a warmer area as soon as your done exercising.

Is working out in the cold a bad thing if I wanna improve my cardio??

Don%26#039;t over-do-it. I think the cooler air is better because it%26#039;s easier to breath but just relax while your working out because your heart will beat with less stress and better blood flow through your body.

Do I have Painc or anxiety attacks?

the way I asked before got me no where (I don%26#039;t think I put it into the right words or details)... It%26#039;s kinda hard for me to describe what happens but sometimes I will be sitting there doing w/e and my ears ring, my heart rate will increase and I breath heavy.... those are the main symptoms other wise hereis my list....

-I get dizzy

-my heart rate goes up

-my ears ring

-I feel really tense

-I breath heavily

-I sweat

-and it%26#039;s hard for me to concentrate (I almost black out)

So what do yuo guys think? Do I have some panic problem?

and actually yes, the symptoms I described do sometimes happen when I%26#039;m not nervous/anxious or w/e.

Do I have Painc or anxiety attacks?

panic %26amp; anxiety are all the same .

Do I have Painc or anxiety attacks?

YUP! They are panic attacks and they suck. Get Xanax, you will feel better and not suffer from these symptoms as much

Do I have Painc or anxiety attacks?

This maybe. You need to consult with your doctor who will either prescribe medication such as Paxil, Zoloft etc. and or send you to a therapist. Everyone has this happen some time in their life. It is not too difficult to get under control as long as you take the meds correctly and follow what your doctor recommends as far as therapy.

Do I have Painc or anxiety attacks?

Sorry, but I have no idea. I%26#039;m not a doctor, but I think maybe you should ask your doctor about it.

Do I have Painc or anxiety attacks?

I had them for years - there is a wonderful at home program called Attacking Anxiety. I have no more panic attacks.

www.attackinganxiety.com

Do I have Painc or anxiety attacks?

I sounds as if you may be suffering from symptoms of anxiety. In contrast to a previous answer, panic and anxiety are similar but NOT the same. Panic is a SUDDEN onset of fear that basically replaces rational thinking. Panic is also called the %26quot;fight or flight%26quot; response. Anxiety is a response to a more prolonged feeling of fear, danger or general uneasiness.

Needless to say, your best bet is NOT to get a prescription for Xanax, but to see your doctor who may advise you to see a mental health professional who may try to see WHY you get these feelings. They may prescribe a sedative as an adjunct to other treatment

Do I have Painc or anxiety attacks?

Taking into account your symptoms you can be having Panic attacks, but these symptoms may be due to another causes so I think that you should go to the doctor. It is very common to have anxiety attacks when you feel relax. If finally they are anxiety attacks I recommend you not only take drugs but you to a therapist because the drugs will make the symptoms disappear as long as you take them but the therapy will act not only in the symptoms but in the causes.

Fat Burn vs Cardio Settings on Elliptical?

I%26#039;m exercising to lose weight/fat, and I was wondering what is the best approach to using the elliptical machine at my gym? I can devote 30 minutes 5 days a week. I%26#039;ve been using the fat burn program, but I%26#039;m wondering if I should be using the cardio program instead? Also - the target heart rates for each program are different - low for fat burn, and high for cardio. Since I%26#039;m 45, what is the best target heart rate for burning fat?

Fat Burn vs Cardio Settings on Elliptical?

I was told by my gym guy that that is old information when they made those settings on the Eliptical. What matters most is that you keep moving and keep your heart rate within a normal range for you. Work so that you make it all the way to the end of the time you set, and maybe push yourself a little harder by some reseistence (levels). It%26#039;s OK if your heart rate goes into the %26quot;cardio range%26quot; on that little display. You are still going to burn fat no matter what.

How much cardio should i do each day?

if i want to lose 10-15 lbs...how much should i work out each day and what heart rate should i aim for? i notice when i run, my heart rate gets pretty high. should i slow it down to burn more fat?

How much cardio should i do each day?

Do 45 minute sessions 4x a week and watch your diet. Your diet is just as or more important then cardio. Also try to get some weight training in there.

How much cardio each day?

if i want to lose 10-15 lbs...how much should i work out each day and what heart rate should i aim for? i notice when i run, my heart rate gets pretty high. should i slow it down to burn more fat?

**i asked in diet %26amp; fitness but didn%26#039;t get a response.

How much cardio each day?

If you want to lose weight you need to do at least 30 minutes to an hour 5-6 times a week. I would aim for an hour 5 times a week for maximum weight loss. You also need to incorporate some weight lifting, because muscle burns more calories than fat, and it will also make you look leaner.

As for heart rate..if you exercise harder you can go for less time, but if you keep your heart rate lower than you will need to workout longer to get the same calorie burning benefits..

How much cardio each day?

30 minutes

Wives tales??

I know that they aren%26#039;t always right bt.... I want to gess the sex of my baby.. I am 1-12 weeks and jst want some entertainment lol.... any one know of any? I know that there is one about heart rate, at the last appt. the baby heart rate was 165, is that a girl or boy according to the tale??? ?

Wives tales??

閳?According to the old wives tale for bay%26#039;s heart rate - 165 is a girl. [[Below 140 is a boy, above 140 is a girl]]

Here are some more old wives tales: Some are funny, some are ridiculous, some just normal... but you said you wanted entertainment. Lolz... so here you go.

閳?Extra weight in the front means a girl while extra weigh on hips/butt mean its a boy.

閳?If a woman carries low its a boy, if a woman carries high its a girl.

閳?Dark nipples indiciate a boy.

閳?Hang your wedding ring [[or important ring]] from a string over your belly. If the ring swings back and forth your baby is a girl. If it swings around in a circle then it is a boy.

閳?Some say that if you can tell your baby閳ユ獨 sex by picking up a single key. If you pick the key up by big, round (top) part then you are having a boy. If you pick it up by the narrow part on the bottom then you are having a girl. Then, as if it isn閳ユ獩 detailed enough, if you pick the key up by the middle you are having TWINS!

閳?Take the mothers age at conception and the year of conception and add them together. If the result is a even number then mom is having a girl. If the result is an odd number then a boy is on the way!

Congratulations and Good Luck!

Wives tales??

it%26#039;s a girl according to the wives tale

Wives tales??

I think this works its never failed in my family or with my baby. Get a needle on the end of a piece of cotton and hold it above the bump, if it spins round its a girl.. backwards and forwards its a boy!! have fun!!

Wives tales??

the faster the heartbeat, usually means its a boy. my babys heartbeat was always really fast and thats what the doctor told me and sure enough, its a boy.

Wives tales??

Hi

I was told my baby%26#039;s heart rate ran around 166 and the doctor exclaimed we had a boy. SURPRISE - it was a girl...lol.

A sonogram is the only thing I can think of.

Wives tales??

According to the wives%26#039; tales 165 heart rate is a girl.

There are several test and charts online that are pretty entertaining. Also, (though it may be too early for you) I%26#039;ve heard that if you can%26#039;t tell from behind that you%26#039;re expecting than you%26#039;re carrying a boy.

One more, if you%26#039;re craving sweet, girl. Sour food, boy.

Good luck and Congrats !!

I am dying to find out myself my sono is next week. Personal prediction = boy.

Wives tales??

According to the stories, a high rate is a girl and lower is a boy. 165 would be a girl. Check out fortunebaby.com for some other tests.

Wives tales??

If the heart rate is really fast its a girl.

Wives tales??

But the heartbeat tale has been proven wrong by me, my boy%26#039;s was 158...

Wives tales??

I%26#039;ve heard you carry boys low %26amp; girls high.

Wives tales??

It could vary from person to person. My sis and aunt were pregnant at the same time. My sis gained weight all over while my aunt was one big belly basketball. My sis carried low while my aunt carried high. My sis%26#039;s baby had a higher heart rate than my aunt. They each had boys !!! They were 6 mths apart !!! I%26#039;d go with the gut feeling. I felt like I was having a boy long before the ultrasound showed a %26quot;turtle%26quot; sign.

Wives tales??

girl but that wives tell does not work my aunt has to girls ones heartbeat was in the low 130 the other was in the hi 180 so it does not work

Wives tales??

According to the tale its a girl. Mine has been in the 160%26#039;s range all 3 times I%26#039;ve heard it. There is also a chinese gender prediction chart. According to that one its also a girl for me. I will get to find out in a few weeks. I%26#039;ll let you know if there was any truth to it for me.

Wives tales??

According to the wives tale it%26#039;s a girl. Mine was.

Also horrendous amount of %26quot;morning%26quot; sickness is supposed to mean a girl

And bad heartburn is supposed to mean a lot of hair.

Those were the three that I know of that were true for my baby.

Wives tales??

According to the tale, above 140 is a girl, below 140 is a boy, except in England, where it is the other way around. Then, of course, there is the tale about hanging your wedding ring from a string above your belly and if it goes in a circle its a girl and if it swings back and forth its a boy (or the other way around, depending on who you ask). If you pee in draino and it turns blue its a boy, pink its a girl. If you%26#039;re craving sweets its a girl, meat and cheese its a boy. You can look up the chinese birth calander, or whatever its called. That one is supposed to actually have a pretty good record predicting gender. There are a ton of tales out there, and you will be sure to hear them all before its all said and done.

My favorite one I%26#039;ve heard so far is, if you have a craving and dont eat what your craving, your baby will be born with a birth mark on their face the shape of whatever you were craving. Crazy!

Wives tales??

get a red string tie one end to a stick or pencil and put it over your wrist. if the string goes in a cirlce its a boy and if it goes back and forth its a girl.

Wives tales??

I don%26#039;t know about that one but in Portugal they say the shape of your bump will tell you, for example:

Round belly: Girl

Pointy belly:Boy

Wives tales??

I did a fun test on babycenter.com. It gave me a 65% chance of having a girl. When I went for my ultrasound it turned out to be true. I wouldn%26#039;t say that they are totally accurate or believe them 100%, but like you said, they%26#039;re fun to do in the meantime. Good luck, have fun, and congrats on your pregnancy!!!

Wives tales??

There are other things to do... take one of your rings and use a thin string and have someone hold it over your belly and if it swings back and forth its a GIRL if is goes in circles its a BOY. The hear rate thing I dunno about that cuz my babys heart rate was slow at first and the highest I seen it 176... I%26#039;m having a boy. You can tell on how your caring. Also on line there is this Chinese Chart that you can find out what your having by putting in your due date

Wives tales??

%26quot;OTHER OLD WIVES TALES%26quot;:

1. If you have a dimple in your chin---It%26#039;s a girl

2. If your skin is free of blemishes----It%26#039;s a boy

3. If your belly hangs low----it%26#039;s a boy

4. If your belly is up high (almost to your chest)--It%26#039;s a girl

5. Several yeast infections------It%26#039;s a boy

6.Your hair grows faster----It%26#039;s a girl

Wives tales??

heres the thing.. when i was 12 weeks.. it was 167.. and now that the baby is bigger it is 152 (18 weeks ) the heartbeat gets slower as the baby grows because there is a bigger area to pump the blood.. soo... right now, i am not sure that the wives tale would be too accurate.. try the draino thing

Wives tales??

They say if you are carrying high its a girl and if you are carring low its a girl. Another one is, take a ring on a necklace and hold it over your stomach, ir it swings back and forth its a girl, and if it swings in a circle, it a boy. They say if you have alot of heart burn during your pregnacy its a boy.

Wives tales??

http://www.childbirth.org/articles/boyor...

This is fun to try.....although with mine...it came out 50% boy-50% girl...what a help that was! lol! good luck!

Wives tales??

Try these gender prediction charts, they were right for me and all 5 of my sisters%26#039; pregnancies. Good luck and Best wishes!!

Unusual Chest Problems?

Scenario: I have developed this problem; Whenever I lie down sideways (Either resting prone, back or on my sides) I start to ensure strange effects.

1: My breathing rate changes

2: I begin to have heart palpitations

3: My heartbeat becomes mildly faster

4: I have an uncomfortable feeling in my upper chest area

I made an appointment to go to the doctor%26#039;s office and upon evaluation he claimed that there were no visable problems; blood pressure was fine and heart rate was perfect - No flaws or abnormal beats.

However %26quot;no visable problems%26quot; does not explain what the problem is, and felt that it was in my best interests not to know, however this problem can prevent me from going to sleep for 30-60 minutes, sometimes forcing me to wake up suddenly, taking in a deep breath, or causing me to stir constantly in an attempt to get into a more comfortable position. I am aware of a way to suppress the effects (Though for decency, I shall not post it here).

What is the problem?

Unusual Chest Problems?

You might be suffering from Amnxiety Disorder or Angina Pectoris.

What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Angina?

Pain and discomfort are the main symptoms of angina. Angina is often described as pressure, squeezing, burning, or tightness in the chest. It usually starts in the chest behind the breastbone.

Pain from angina also can occur in the arms, shoulders, neck, jaw, throat, or back. It may feel like indigestion.

Some people say that angina discomfort is hard to describe or that they can%26#039;t tell exactly where the pain is coming from.

Symptoms such as nausea (feeling sick to your stomach), fatigue (tiredness), shortness of breath, sweating, light-headedness, or weakness also may occur. Women are more likely to feel discomfort in their back, shoulders, and abdomen.

Symptoms vary based on the type of angina.

Stable Angina

The pain or discomfort:

Occurs when the heart must work harder, usually during physical exertion

Doesn%26#039;t come as a surprise, and episodes of pain tend to be alike

Usually lasts a short time (5 minutes or less)

Is relieved by rest or medicine

May feel like gas or indigestion

May feel like chest pain that spreads to the arms, back, or other areas

Unstable Angina

The pain or discomfort:

Often occurs at rest, while sleeping at night, or with little physical exertion

Comes as a surprise

Is more severe and lasts longer (as long as 30 minutes) than episodes of stable angina

Is usually not relieved with rest or medicine

May get continually worse

May mean that a heart attack will happen soon

Variant Angina

The pain or discomfort:

Usually occurs at rest and during the night or early morning hours

Tends to be severe

Is relieved by medicine

Lasting Chest Pain

Chest pain that lasts longer than a few minutes and isn%26#039;t relieved by rest or angina medicine may mean you%26#039;re having (or are about to have) a heart attack. Call 9閳?閳? right away.

How Is Angina Diagnosed?

The most important issues to address when you go to the doctor with chest pain are:

What%26#039;s causing the chest pain

Whether you%26#039;re having or are about to have a heart attack

Angina is a symptom of an underlying heart problem, usually coronary artery disease (CAD). The type of angina pain you have can be a sign of how severe the CAD is and whether it%26#039;s likely to cause a heart attack.

If you have chest pain, your doctor will want to find out whether it%26#039;s angina. He or she also will want to know whether the angina is stable or unstable. If it%26#039;s unstable, you may need emergency medical attention to try to prevent a heart attack.

To diagnose chest pain as stable or unstable angina, your doctor will do a physical exam, ask about your symptoms, and ask about your risk factors and your family history of CAD or other heart disease.

He or she may also ask questions about your symptoms, such as:

What brings on the pain or discomfort and what relieves it?

What does the pain or discomfort feel like (for example, heaviness or tightness)?

How often does the pain occur?

Where do you feel the pain or discomfort?

How severe is the pain or discomfort?

How long does the pain or discomfort last?

The following diagnostic procedures might be performed:

1) EKG)

2) CXR

3) Stress Testing

4) Cardiac Cath

Blood tests check the levels of certain fats, cholesterol, sugar, and proteins in your blood. Abnormal levels may show that you have risk factors for CAD. The doctor might want to check you also for Anemia. via the hemoglobin count.

Important lifestyle changes include:

Quitting smoking, if you smoke. Avoid secondhand smoke.

Being physically active. Check with your doctor to find out how much and what kinds of activity are safe for you.

Losing weight, if you%26#039;re overweight or obese.

Taking all medicines as your doctor prescribes, especially if you have diabetes.

Unusual Chest Problems?

Thanks! I%26#039;m glad it%26#039;s only an anxiety disorder. As you%26#039;re still very young. Besides, anxiety can be controlled by relaxation and breathing exercises. Meditaion and yoga would certainly help to keep your emotions in check. Report It

Unusual Chest Problems?

However, if you persist on these nocturnal chestpains; SOB as you stated without stimuli or provocation- you definitelyshould be checked by the doctor as it%26#039;s unstable angina. CAD if caught in time is manageable with medications. HA and strokes can be prevented this way. Report It

Unusual Chest Problems?

See other doctors. As soon as you can. The one you saw might be a half wit.

Unusual Chest Problems?

probably you start to hyperventilate when you go to bed

try to find out what is going on in your mind, try to resolve this problem and feel better

How long should i wait after each repition when working out?

I work out but i am not sure how long to wait before i start each rep

How long should i wait after each repition when working out?

45 seconds no more for rest in between

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

Some of you are thinking I am confused about The Medications my Son recieved at the Hospital. I know this the Hospital medical records say he was given Morphine for pain and My son took 2 hits in 20 minutes. He had an allergic reaction to the Morphine the Doctor ordered Narcan My sons heart rate went up to 200 and above. the Doctor ordered another medication to slow the heart rate down. an hour after that My Son Died. That I have in writing. If what you all say is true that Narcan doesn%26#039;t reverse the effects of Morphine. The that tells me My Son was given the Wrong Medication. Am I Correct?

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

I am a nurse in a hospital, and we use morphine a lot. This is so complicated you probably will not get a correct answer on the internet. You need to know what other drugs your son recieved. Also, was he abusing street drugs? Was he using methamphetamine or cocaine. Did they do a drug test? Did he have heart problems before his hospitalization? Why was he in pain? What was the cause of death on his death certificate? Narcan is an antagonist for narcotic pain relievers and some other substances used on the street market. Did the physician say he had an allergic reaction to the morphine? Tell me more more more.

By all means, speak to his doctor and find out what happened. I work with many physicians and they are honest. Medicine is a science not an exact art. Maybe his physician can put your heart at ease.

Peace and prayers to you and your family.

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

Wow!!!!! and I thought you were a real a s s Oh! But this is about your son, what about others, and who they lost...... Report It

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

The best suggestion I can give is to contact an attorney, specializing in medical malpractice, and get his advice. However, it would appear to me, if someone gave him a double dose of morphine in the short time you say, it%26#039;s no wonder his heartrate rocketed. I don%26#039;t know anything about the narcan or its effects, but you can easily look it up on any medical website.

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

First off if this is true i am so sorry for you. What you need to do first before even telling anyone that you are concerned about malpractice is to ask for a copy of all of his medical records and billing charges in writing. Go to the hospital and ask for it don%26#039;t let them mail it too you. Then go to another trusted doctor and ask his opinion then depending on what he has to say (prefereably a doctor at another location-family doctor or another hospital) go to see a lawyer. Don%26#039;t say anything to anyone before getting the paper and if they ask just say it is for your personal records concerning insurance, medicaid your financial records or an itemized list for taxes next year. Things may disappear or be altered if there was something done wrong.

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

No...Narcan does reverse morphine, and this sounds like an appropriate use for it.

I%26#039;m sorry to hear about your loss.

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

From what you say, the right medication was given - narcan reverses the effects of morphine. Its a tragedy. Before looking into malpractice claims and so forth, I think you should make an appointment to speak with your son%26#039;s physician in a calm and unhurried way, to ask him waht happened, and if possible, to tell you why.

Sadly in medicine, things do not always work out well. There are occasions when people die unexpectedly despite the medical team%26#039;s best efforts.

I hope that by talking to your son%26#039;s physician, you can begin to understand, and make a rational decision regarding what to do next.

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

narcan does reverse morphine, morphine is a respiritory depressant, usually slows yr heart rate, and drops yr blood pressure. but narcan definetly is a reverse for morphine and is usually very effective.

so very sorry to hear about yr loss, ((hugs))

My most recent Question was about my 19 year old Son?

No. What I said was that Narcan isn%26#039;t used to treat an %26quot;allergy%26quot; to morphine, which is what you said your son had. Narcan reverses the sedative effects of morphine and the respiratory depression of morphine, but these don%26#039;t constitute an allergic reaction.

And I stand by my advice of yesterday about talking to the physician who cared for the deceased patient. Once you clarify the questions in your mind, discuss it in a nonthreatening and non-accusatory manner with the physician. And then make some decisions about what you want to do.

Did you know?

that gender has an effect on physical and psycological well-being? (duh lol but)

Can you help me with this running related question?

When I run, whenever I feel tired and feel like giving up, I never stop and walk, I just run slower...

I heard that if I stop and walk after a 10 minute run, once I start to run again it will be difficult to keep up the pace because my heart rate went down.

Its hard to explain, all I know is that I must maintain my heart rate through the whole run, and walking is just going to make it harder once I start to run again.

Am I right about this?

Can you help me with this running related question?

The problem here is that you re not in shape yet, you are just getting started. If you run for 10 minutes every other day, you just can%26#039;t stay tired for more than a few weeks. Your body will adapt to your level of exertion and soon you won%26#039;t need to walk.

When you%26#039;re in shape, your heart rate will rise and fall as required to meet the challenge. When I used to run in the city, I had to stop for traffic lights; it was no problem starting up again each time because I was strong. Actually it helped because it gave me a chance to aerate a little and let my energy catch up. But if you are already exhausted, stopping feels so good you don%26#039;t want to start again!

If you%26#039;re too tired to run, stop early and you%26#039;ll be stronger next time you run. if you can run for ten minutes, every other day, for three weeks, you won%26#039;t have this problem and may even feel like running 15 minutes from time to time! Be patient.

Can you help me with this running related question?

Depends on how you feel. If you need to walk for a while then walk. If you are trying to improve your cardiovascular conditioning then you should keep your heart rate elevated, but walking until you feel like running again is not a bad thing to do. I don%26#039;t think walking for a while is going to make it harder to start running again. You should do what you feel like doing just keep exercising you will get better and feel better.

Can you help me with this running related question?

You are indeed right about this. This is where the mental part of running comes into play. You need to learn to run through that little voice in your head that tells you to stop. Even though you have the physical strength to run, your mental side maybe lacking. Therefore, try and just run straight through it. There really is no remedy for the mental side of running, just that you need to be a bit tougher with your mind.

Can you help me with this running related question?

Absolutely. I recently started running and that happens to me all the time. That%26#039;s where endurance comes into play. Try to always keep running instead of walking. If you give up, you won%26#039;t get much better. Eventually, you won%26#039;t feel the need to walk. Good luck!

Aerobic workout after lifting?

I am a 20 year old male and I am currently trying to burn fat and gain muscle simmultaneously. I have heard that this is difficult. This is what I have been doing. I weight 4 times a day and everyday I jog for an hour. When I jog I use my heart rate meter to make sure Im in the 60%-70% of my maximum heart rate, so i primarily burn fat. Also on the days I lift I jog afterwards. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions.

Aerobic workout after lifting?

I%26#039;m 37 year-old male (old fart compared to you!) and am doing the same thing. I lift weights and run 3-4 days a week. Here%26#039;s some tips: If you are overweight, cut out JUNK food and carbs. Drink lots of water. Drink diet soda if you have to. Implement muscle confusion. Mix up your weight liftiing routines every few weeks. Muscles build up %26quot;memory%26quot; and compensate. Eat more protein. Avoid fatty steaks. Hot dogs. Eat more fish and chicken. Diet just as important as exercise.

Aerobic workout after lifting?

If you want to keep the muscle that you are lifting for you need to stop running, period. The best way to control fat loss is through your diet. Us the elliptical machine at your gym at high resistance for 45 min after your workout so you will be burning fat (by the way your target heart rate for burning fat is lower than what you achieve while you are jogging) instead of doing Cardio training which is what you are doing when you run. Make yourself up a 50-30-20 diet which 50% of your calorie intake is protein 30% is carbs (starve the fat feed the muscle) and 20% fats. If you are looking to lose weight take your BMR subtract 500 calories and create your diet from there. Use thecaloriecounter.com to get your caloric, protein, carb, and fat info. good luck.

Science purpose for sci. fair?

ok so me and my friend are doing a science fair project where we are doing dance classes and r taking our heart rate before after and 15 mins. after each dance class. my purpose is -

Julia will take her heart rate to determine which dance class you will get the best cardio workout from

i have to make this purpose at least 3 sentences - i ask you to help

PLEASEEEE

Science purpose for sci. fair?

Julia will take her heart her heart rate before each dance class. Then, she will mark her heart rate after each dance class. with these results she can determine which will give you the best cardio work-out.

What exactly is intense cardio?

I work out on the Eliptical machine for about 30-40 minutes with my heart rate way above my cardio heart rate target.... Is that intense cardio? What kinds of workouts are considered intense cardio.. Kick boxing? Cycling classes?

What exactly is intense cardio?

What an awesome question. I actually get asked it a lot.

First off the heartrates listed on those charts are one step above worthless because they caregorize us solely by age completely discounting the fact that what is %26quot;intense%26quot; for one person may be a walk in the park for a more fit person.

Second - let%26#039;s dispel the %26quot;cardio%26quot; vs %26quot;fat loss%26quot; myth - While it is true that you will burn a higher % of your calories from fat exercising at a lower intensity , you can burn MORE TOTAL CALORIES (and fat) by exercising harder

Third %26quot;Exercise Intensity%26quot; is measured as a % of yoru max so an %26quot;intense%26quot; workout would be anything that gets you to a higher % . The fitter you get the harder you will have to train to get your heartrate up

Okay, that having been said:

The most important factor is knowing YOUR fitness level. You can check this by testing your resting heartrate. Take your pulse 1st thing in the morning for a minute before rising.

You can go here for a calculator that will figure out your % either with or without knowing your resting heartrate. This will tell you how intense you are actually training. The key is to gradually raise your intensity for the duration of your exercise.

For example, if you are training at 75 % on the eliptical, try adding %26quot;hi intensity%26quot; intervals which brings your HR up by 5 - 10 % and keep it there for a few minutes. Gradually increase your intervals until the entire session is at the next higer %

What exactly is intense cardio?

Yes, all of those are. Anything that gets your heart rate up. Don%26#039;t maintain your heart rate above the target or you will damage the heart muscle. The point of strenuous exercise is not to get the heart beating like crazy. That%26#039;s not how you get in shape. All the muscles in your body get better conditioned, and your metabolism improves when you exercise properly. Strength training is very beneficial in weight loss also, so do some weight training or pilates or yoga in addition to %26quot;cardio.%26quot;

What exactly is intense cardio?

It depends on the intensity you are doing it at, and what you%26#039;re trying to acheive. If you are above your THR, you won%26#039;t burn fat, but you will get cardio benefits.

What exactly is intense cardio?

What is WAY ABOVE MY TARGET HEART RATE?

What is your target heart rate? The one for fat loss or the one for cardio conditioning.

What do you think you%26#039;re accomplishing if you%26#039;re at 100% of your MAX heart rate?

What exactly is intense cardio?

Yeah spinning class is intense cardio as well as body sculpting.

Left side swelling on abdomen/rib cage...Help?

Ok, two weeks ago I just out of nowhere had this swelling on my left side. Hasn%26#039;t been painful. I went to the emergency room a week ago, told them of all my symptoms.. They did blood tests, monospot tests, and a CAT/CT scan of my abdomen and they found nothing %26#039;abnormal%26#039;. They said I had %26#039;viral syndrome%26#039;, which I%26#039;m better from, and anxiety, because my heart rate was fast and all over the place. ANYways, my question is, my left side still feels swollen, it doesn%26#039;t hurt, though. If I move a certain way I feel as if I have a %26#039;catch%26#039; there. Could my spleen, or something else, be swollen even though they found nothing wrong? I%26#039;ve worked myself into a frenzy with this since last night %26amp; my heart rate has been fast all day long. Any help or reassurance will make me feel so much better. Thank you!

Left side swelling on abdomen/rib cage...Help?

The swelling could very well be the result of muscle contracture. Done to protect the immediate area of irritation. One thing that may be considered would be a rib that is twisted and pressing on the intercostal nerve. This could be confirmed by the simple process of taking a deep breath. If that deep inspiration creates pain and stops the continued inspiration, the diagnosis can be determined.

Left side swelling on abdomen/rib cage...Help?

go and see a doctor about this!

MATH HElP!?

A certain drug raises a patient%26#039;s heart rate, h(x), in beats per minute, according to the function h(x) = 70 + 0.2x, where x is the bloodstream drug level, in milligrams. The level of the drug in the patient%26#039;s bloodstream is a function of time, t, in hours, according to the formula g(t) = 300(0.8)^t. Find the value of h(g(4)), the patient%26#039;s heart rate in beats per minute, to the nearest whole number

MATH HElP!?

g(t) = 300(0.8)^t.

g(4)=300(0.8)^4

= 300 . (0.4096)

= 122.88

h(x)=70+0.2x

h(122.88)=70+0.2(122.88)

= 70 + 24.576

= 94.576

What's this mean?

Sitting BP: 97/74 HR 89

Standing BP: 95/79 HR 123

When doing cardio last week my heart rate stayed between 149 and 189. After stopping my HR jumped to 230, and stayed around that for 30 minutes. It later lowered after I was sitting for over an hour, and my heart rate was 45.

I don%26#039;t know what my resting HR is. I%26#039;ve been getting dizzy when I stand from last night. I noticed my asthma rescue inhaler raises my HR a lot, and I took the inhaler last night.

What%26#039;s this mean?

HR above 170ish are not great for cardio workouts in the first place, but getting into the 200%26#039;s afterwards is potentially a sign of a heart problem. You most likely were experiencing atrial fibrillation. The top chambers in the heart (atria) quiver at a very fast rate, and the ventricals can respond with an increased rate as well (rapid ventricular response). This decreases your cardiac output (the amount of blood your heart pumps), which would explain your dizziness.

A heart rate of 45 is also abnormal, except in the extremely trained athlete (think Lance Armstrong). Your asthma inhaler may also be contributing to your heart changes, as many of the medications used in rescue inhalers can increase your heart rate. I would recommend seeing your primary care physician or a cardiologist for further work up. More than likely, they will set you up wtih a holter monitor, which is basically a little box you strap around your chest like the HR monitors for treadmills, that records the electrical activity in your heart. This info is then reviewed for abnormalities and trends. Hope this helps.

What%26#039;s this mean?

im not sure what the problem is, but b4 u finished ur workout did u stretch and do a cooldown exercise to stop blood pooling... on my gym course i didnt do a cool down n felt very dizzy, my eyesight went very blured to a point where i couldnt make out objects just basic shapes n colours, n nearly fainted. it happend because i did 5min of fast hard rowing on a high lvl n i just stood up after.

NECK PAINS!!!!! Plz help?

A while ago, I waso n my bed and I did some sort of movement and since my neck has been hurting when my heart rate is up. This has been hapening for like 2 days. I know its my heart rate cus everytime i try to %26quot;enjoy%26quot; myself, it ******* hurts!!!!!!!!! Excuse my language! Plz dont comment on the masterbation part, everyone says its normal. PLZ help TY

Its the back of the neck that hurts

NECK PAINS!!!!! Plz help?

Do you have this pain when you do other strenuous things, like running or biking for a long time?

You might have strained a muscle or two in the back. Is it the two symmetrical tendons that kind of stand out on the back of the head, right where the skull meets the neck?

You can take an anti-inflammatory like IB Profin. Maybe check your blood pressure for good measure. But if the pain lasts more than a few days, go see the doctor.

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

I was just diagnosed with Graves Disease. Is it possible for my symptoms to be related to something else? My doctor told me that I have hyperthyroidism, which is caused by the graves. I%26#039;m not skinny (in fact a little on the heavy side), my eyes don%26#039;t bulge, and never, before I went to the endocrinologist, did I ever have high blood pressure, a high pulse or heart rate. I was nervous about going to the doctor. In fact I had been taking phentermine because I can never loose weight, no matter what I do. I know the phentermine could have messed with my heart rate, pulse and blood pressure, but could it have messed with my blood test results? I%26#039;m very frustrated, and do not want to take this damn medication for thyroid, that%26#039;s going to make me gain weight, if this doctor%26#039;s wrong. What else could it be?

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

With any serious medical diagnosis, you should always consult with a second doctor to get a second opinion. If your doc is a good doc, he will welcome the suggestion as well. Its possible that the diet meds could affect the results. Certainly phentermine increases your heart rate and it does have some affect on your blood pressure. I would seek a second opinion. Get off of the phentermine for at least two weeks before having another set of blood tests done. Good luck.

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

How about going for a second opinion to another endocrinologist? When a patient has an issue with a diagnosis such as this, that is normally what one does.

You certainly won%26#039;t get the kind of answer you need to preserve your health on this forum.

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

If you feel like you need a second opinion- don%26#039;t hesitate. Call another doctor immediately. Good Luck!!

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

The best thing to do is to go in for a second opinion. It can%26#039;t hurt to do that and your primary doctor shouldn%26#039;t get offended by that since it is common practice to get second opinions when it comes to things like this.

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

First off, did the endocrinologist test your blood for TSH, T3, and T4? If he did, that is where he is getting the diagnosis. Your eyes dont%26#039; have to bulge, etc... at the beginning of the disease. Ask how he arrived at this conclusion.

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

It could be Lupus - my friend has something simular, the diet meds could have set off the Lupus

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

Did you tell the doctor you were on phentermine? When testing for graves/hyperthyroidism, the Thyroxine blood levels would be checked, what were the results of these? If in fact you do have hyperthyroidism, you will need medication to prevent what is called a thyroid storm, which could be extremely dangerous. Do go get your second opinion, but don%26#039;t put it off okay? Good luck darlin

Misdiagnosis of Graves Disease?

you need to see an endocrinologist.

I suffer from High blood pressure and high cholesterol what would be a good and safe workout?

I suffer from High blood pressure and high cholesterol what would be a good and safe workout in regards to weight machines and cardio machines. What should i push my heart rate too if my resting heart rate is 89 bpm. What percentage of my max should i lift?

I suffer from High blood pressure and high cholesterol what would be a good and safe workout?

Sorry you cannot do weight lifting, but you can do walking, even brisk, avoid fat, sugar, stimulants. and be stress free.

I suffer from High blood pressure and high cholesterol what would be a good and safe workout?

With those two rascal problems working against you, I am very surprised your doctor did not give you a specific exercise regimen. I suggest you get the doctors view on improvement approaches.

Walking briskly one hour a day is usually excellent therapy. You can and will walk yourself into better health. You can lower the cholesterol and blood pressure numbers to normal values in many cases.

I suffer from High blood pressure and high cholesterol what would be a good and safe workout?

There really is no limit to how you can exercise, just don%26#039;t push yourself too much. Since you have hypertension, you should stay within the lower boundaries of your target heart rate. Your maximum heart rate is (220-age). Since I don%26#039;t know your age, I cannot give you a target heart rate, for a 50 year old person with hypertension, their target heart rate should be 102 - 130 BPM. You can calculate your target heart rate by taking your maximum heart rate and multiplying it by 0.6 to get a good target heart rate for yourself.

I suffer from High blood pressure and high cholesterol what would be a good and safe workout?

Saturated fat raises cholesterol and is found mostly in foods from animals like beef, pork, eggs, butter and cheese. Plants that contain saturated fat include coconut, cottonseed and palm oil, and cocoa butter.

High cholesterol causes high blood pressure. The best thing for high cholesterol is Losing weight. A plant-based diet in conjunction with a properly conducted fast, most often leads to a total recovery or a vast improvement in hypertension and angina.

I suffer from High blood pressure and high cholesterol what would be a good and safe workout?

This depends on a number of things, such as your age, whether or not you already have heart disease or other chronic health problems, etc. It%26#039;s important to get your doctor%26#039;s OK before exercising and start very moderately. Be sure your blood pressure is well controlled before you start a program.

Mothers to be i found something great!!!!?

hello everyone...i thought i would share something great and encouraging on here!!! i am almost 4 months pregnant...and when i was at my last appointment and all they did is use a doppler to check the fetal heart rate i thought well....i would like to have that asurance at home...so i went on ebay and bought a hand held at home fetal doppler...they range from about 115-120...i know it sounds like alot but the ability to hear your little baby when ever you want to is well worth it...There are days i am sure every mother to be has had when you wonder if things are ok or if the baby is still there...i love hearing the little life and would recommend it to anyone...a side note to anyone else to gets one the first time i tried to use it...it was hard to find the baby and the heart rate and i was getting my own..but when i found it is was easy!!! the baby is much lower that i thought!!

Mothers to be i found something great!!!!?

what is your question?

Mothers to be i found something great!!!!?

That would be a wonderful idea, to hear your little one day by day at your own home. I bought the Wal-Mart one but I cannot find my little ones heartbeat, and you can hear everything around you but the heart of the baby. I will have to return it. Good Luck.

**17 wks pregnant**

Mothers to be i found something great!!!!?

You can also rent them. Congratulations

Mothers to be i found something great!!!!?

Congrats! and remember the baby moves so it may not be in the same spot everyday!

Mothers to be i found something great!!!!?

Thanks so much for sharing this, i might look into buying one myself. It must be great being able to hear your babies heart whenever you want!

Mothers to be i found something great!!!!?

yeah i am 14 weeks preg. i actually looked into the doppler also! i would also love to get one for the simple fact that every time i go to the dr. for my next visit i just cannot wait to hear my babys heart a beating away!! gives me a sence of reassurance that everythings okay!! plus its rather soothing!! ...didnt think to look on ebay, i%26#039;ll have to look!! best of luck to you and your baby!! :-]

Identify the experimental groups in the experiment?

to study the effects of common substance ont he heart rate of the tiny aquatic organism known as Daphnia, students placed a daphnia in a drop of water on a glass slide. TYhe Students then added 1 or more drops of a test substance dissolved in water to the slide, waited 10 seconds, then counted the heart rate for 10 seconds. the students used a clean slide and a new Daphnia each time... the test substances were Coffee, water, and Ethanol

I have to do a lab report and I don%26#039;t know what that question is asking or obviously what the answer is.. so please please please help me..

Identify the experimental groups in the experiment?

there are three substances you are testing here: water, coffee, and ethanol.

in ANY experiment, you will have a single control group and at least one experimental group.

the control group shows the behavior of the the daphnia under REGULAR, expected conditions.

the experimental group is the procedure that involves CHANGE. you had two experimental groups.. the coffee experiment and the ethanol experiment. in both cases, you are changing JUST ONE factor to see how it affects the heart rate. the group with the changed factor is the experimental group.

(hope this isn%26#039;t too late...)

What is the danger zone for BP and tachycardia with hyperthyroidism?

I was diagnosed over a year ago with hyperthyroidism. I do not know exactly what form, the endo say thyroiditis but that only lasts 3 months and I have not nor will I go back to that quack. There%26#039;s only one other endo my insurance will pay for and it takes 8 months to get a first appointment. I have to pay for ER services if it isn%26#039;t an emergancy and all I have is a family doctor and this isn%26#039;t her field, that%26#039;s the reason for specialists.

My blood pressure has been off, systolic is low, diastolic is high.. my resting heart rate is never lower then 120 and my body temp has went up from my normal of 96.7 to never less then 99.5 . I have never had blood pressure problems before my thyroid started messing up.

I don%26#039;t want to go the emergancy room but I will if I need to. I do not want to go into a thryoid storm but I can%26#039;t find any information about how high is too high concerning Blood Pressure and resting heart rate. Any info is greatly appreciated.

What is the danger zone for BP and tachycardia with hyperthyroidism?

BP %26gt; 150/100 should be evaluated by a physician.Normal pulse is%26lt; 100 beats per minute

What is the danger zone for BP and tachycardia with hyperthyroidism?

You need to see an endocrinologist who will help you control your thyroid problem and make the other systems go away

Elliptical?

Idk if that%26#039;s how you spell it.. but my question is.. If you do the elyptical machines everyday, will your body become thin? Or will I gain muscle %26amp; have big legs? What if you take in less calories daily.. %26amp; do the elypticals every day. Also, what heart rate should you be at if you want to lose weight? I go really fast %26amp; my heart rate is usually 175...

thanks in advance

Elliptical?

you will slim your legs and core

Elliptical?

Ellipticals are great machines. High cardio workout, low impact on joints. Cardio is the best for losing weight.

Heart rate is determined by your age and weight and general fitness level. The machines usually have it printed on them. If not, search for target heart rate online and it will give you the calculations.

I%26#039;m not really sure what you mean as far as taking in less calories daily. Of course your body needs approx 2,000 calories a day --varying by person, gender, and exercise level, but weight loss is dermined by a simple formula--

take in more calories than you burn each day- gain weight

burn more calories than you take in each day- lose weight

Elliptical machines are great cardio but if you are trying to build muscle, you need to do strength training in addition.

Is it twins?

Hello everyone, Im kind of confused. Today I am 17 weeks pregnant, my only ultrasound was at 8 weeks, it showed one baby, since then all I have had is the sound of my babys heartbeat, the one my doc uses is a doppler but it doesnt show how fast the heart rate is, looks older. I bought my own 2007 model, expensive, I used it today and on my left side it showed 140bpm, normal, then i picked up something on my right side like 120something then i moved the probe to the middle of my stomach and got 229 and higher could i have picked up two heart rates, twins? my doc only listens to my baby for about 20 seconds, or is something wrong with my child?

Is it twins?

There%26#039;s always a possibility that you could be having twins. Are you measuring large? Sometimes the placement of the baby can be hard to see and 8 weeks can be too early, but it is rare. Remember, when the doctor uses the doppler, they only look for one heartbeat and when they find it, they%26#039;re done unless they know you%26#039;re having multiples. At 17 weeks, you should be almost due for your %26quot;big%26quot; ultrasound where they measure the organs and tell you the gender and they should be able to see more clearly. I%26#039;ve never heard of a heartbeat of 229 for a baby...that seems high. My son%26#039;s was always around 130-140. Unless you%26#039;ve been trained to use a doppler, your personal use might not be very accurate. If you%26#039;re concerned, talk to your doctor!

Is it twins?

well when I was in for mine the Dr was trying to listen for the heartbeat and when I thought she finally had it she said %26quot;no that%26#039;s not it, that%26#039;s you%26quot; so your own heartbeat can be picked up by the Doppler so you have to know what you are looking for and where to find it. My suggestion would be to get some help from a trained professional so you know where to put it and what to look for. You more then likely only have 1 baby if you had an ultrasound even though it was when you were 8 weeks. Good Luck with your pregnancy keep us posted!!!!

Is it twins?

cool, I have no idea what%26#039;s going on. Your U/S at 8 weeks would have shown if you were carrying twins. Your MD only listens long enough to check that there%26#039;s a baby%26#039;s heart beat. The actual heart rate of the baby varies from minute to minute depending on it%26#039;s activity and whether you have just had a glucose load (will increase it%26#039;s heart rate). It%26#039;s heart rate averages around 150 bpm. Your own heart rate should be between 60 and 100 bpm. There will be lots of people out there who will tell you all sorts of stories (boy baby heart rate higher than girl baby or vice versa... it%26#039;s all tales).

Migraine Help?

I%26#039;m a 19 y/o female. Ive suffered from migraines since the age of 12. At that time I had an MRI and it showed Lesions (sp?) on my brain. The Dr. didnt say much more about it. Well lately I have been getting a migraine every day for a week. Before I get them I have noticed my chest on my left side starts to hurt, I start slurring my speech/ have trouble typing and then in about 15 minutes I get a migraine. Was at the hospital last week for a severe viral infection. While there my heart rate was in the upper 140 range they did an EKG and everything turned out ok. Now my resting heart rate is around 135. I have no insurance so I was wondering if anyone else has expierenced these symptoms or not, or should I go back to the hospital and have a huge bill to worry about?

Migraine Help?

I have heard of these symptoms before. I think something is going on neurologically with you. It really scares me that you are having slurred speech and the pain in your arm. There is a website I go to, I can share with you.

These people have SEVERE migraine issues. I post on the forum occasionally but I don%26#039;t have 1/4 of the problems with migraines these people do.

I think you should ask one of them. They are all pro%26#039;s at migraine and have been to several types of doctors to find relief.

I think you should probably go back to the hospital. I know it is expensive but it is your health --- and something could serious could be going on with you.

Please check out this site, these people have heard of all the symptoms and different things that can go on and I believe they can answer you better than I can. It%26#039;s a free website for migraine sufferers --that has a real nice message board/forum.

Question on calories and such?

i measured my heart rate at work and kept my counter on that counts the hours i workout, the heart rate, and calories burned during my workout and such...so i was curious as humans are and i kept it on for 3 hours at work, and i burned almost 800 calories in 3 hours and my work wasn%26#039;t busy at all during this time, so i figure when we are busy which is alot then i probley burn like 2000 calories at work alone and then go home and workout for an hour and burn almost 600 there so you figure 2600 calories not counting everything else i do outside of work and working out. so i guess my question is is this what people mean by burn more calories then you use? cause i eat about 1600 calories a day. i workout everyday except mondays and i do an hour each time on the treadmill at moderate to heavy pace. i just want to understand more about working out and such. i lost 16 pounds total and 6 of that is from the last two weeks. so i lose about 2-3 pounds a week.

Question on calories and such?

try this website

www.caloriesperhour.com

Question on calories and such?

no thats about it. keep up the good work! for you calorie question- your deficit per day adds up. say you normally burn 1,700 calories (just living) and then you excercise and burn 600. that%26#039;s 2,300 calories burned that day. now you subtract what you eat (say, 1,600 calories) that%26#039;s a 700 calorie/ day deficit. that adds up to 3,500 which are a pound. a lot of the weight people lose is water, and thats why we lose weight really fast in the beginning.

by the way, those numbers above i was just randomly making up so you probably actually burn more than that :)

Question on calories and such?

No i think you should relax the diet a bit. If you are working out the weight will fall off you. You can still reduce you calorie intake but it is v dangerious if you are constantly excerising aswell. Good luck x x x
