Blood Pressure Question?

I went to one of those blood pressure testing machines at my grocery store today and became a bit confused.

My Systolic Pressure was 135 (High Normal)

My Diastolic Pressure was 58

My Heart Rate was 65 (awesome)

So while my heart rate is great, my blood pressure was a bit high. What does this mean, and why is it this way?

Blood Pressure Question?

those are fine - I would suggest you are young and fit by those figures

Systolic suggests that your heart has plenty of oomph

Diastilic suggests it is not having to do much work when at rest

Blood Pressure Question?

Blood pressure can change by the minute. You could of raised it a bit, just by being at the store.

Heartrate is fine and can also flucuate.

To actually diagnose high blood pressure you need to have high readings 3 times spaced months apart.

Your fine

Blood Pressure Question?

Blood pressure and heart rate are different although they are related. Heart rate is how many times a minute your heart beats. BP is the force of blood against the walls in your arteries.

Blood Pressure Question?

Don%26#039;t depend on in-store testing machines to give you accurate information, and don%26#039;t try to draw conclusions on the basis of their information. How do you feel? If you feel alright, great. If not, go see a doctor, not an in-store machine.

Blood Pressure Question?

You can%26#039;t really make any comment on a single BP reading--you need to have several (a trend); there is always some inherent error in any test--up to 10%, so if there was a 10% error in the systolic you could be a bit lower. But again, your BP changes based upon time of day, hydration status, if you are anxious, just ran over to the market, heat %26amp; humidity etc. Also, you would need to measure several BPs at the same time and place everyday to compare.

As a single reading, this is not too bad.

Blood Pressure Question?

Go get checked to make sure you are not diabetic. Diastolic was little low could be you blood sugar level.
